Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona

The Piazza Navona is a famous square in Rome and sits on what used to be Dornitian's stadium, which is why it has a long oval shape. The square also holds three incredible fountains. Fountain of the Four Rivers is the central and largest of the three and features four figures. Each of these figures represents a river from a different continent. The Neptune Fountain sits at the north end of the square. This fountain features a statue of Neptune surrounded by sea nymphs. The Moor Fountain is located at the south end and feature a statue of a dolphin in in the center. The Neptune Fountain and the Moor Fountain were both constructed by Giacomo della Porta. The Piazza Navona also contains the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. It sits on the site where, according to legend, St. Agnes was stripped naked, but saved from embarrassment by suddenly growing an extraordinary amount of hair. The Piazza Navona is located west of the Pantheon and contains many places for locals to socialize, such as restaurants and nightclubs.
